Job Description: 

Westover School is seeking applicants for the full-time, twelve-month position of Communications Associate. This position supports school-wide communications projects and reports to the Director of Strategic Communications. The position contributes to an integrated internal and external communications and marketing program that supports the school’s mission and strategic goals by working closely with members of the communications team, senior leadership team, faculty, staff, students, and parent/guardian community.

While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks as listed below:

Newsletter/Email Communications: Compile and publish weekly e-bulletins, electronic newsletters, and email communications for varied audiences (students, parents/guardians, alums); write and edit announcements and news items;

Website: Update and manage content on the school website and portal;

Social Media: Co-manage and expand social media and online presence in partnership with the Digital Storyteller; measure impact and report results;

Major Project Contributions: Contribute to communications projects with other functions such as Admission, Development, and other departments,  including basic graphic design, using templates for signs, invitations, and posters; bring forth new ideas and innovations; and provide support for the school’s major publications including admissions materials, the alumni magazine, development materials, written content of the school’s website, curriculum, and handbook guides, and other publications;   

Collaboration: Respond promptly to all communications from the school's various constituencies or external sources; build relationships with key faculty, parents, and volunteers, ensuring open and fluid communication between the communications team, parents, and the school; collaborate closely with a wide variety of departments on campus including significant collaboration with the admissions and advancement teams to ensure messaging alignment across these areas.


Experience and Professional Competencies:

A bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field required

Professional experience in the execution of marketing, communication, and public relations activities required

Knowledge and experience in using social media as a communications and marketing vehicle required

Exemplary communication skills; e.g. writing, editing, and publishing required

Experience coordinating multiple projects simultaneously with the ability to initiate, plan, monitor, and execute a project required

Detail oriented, attention to detail is a must 

Experience in graphic design preferred   

Experience with content development and storytelling preferred

Familiarity with brand management principles and practices preferred 

Familiarity with shooting and editing video/photos and with digital image management platforms preferred
