Position Summary
Westover School seeks an enthusiastic, adaptable, and student-centered Head Track Coach (Running Events) to launch and lead our newly established Track program. This role offers an exciting opportunity to build a program from the ground up, shaping its culture, identity, and training philosophy. The Head Track Coach will focus exclusively on running events, including sprints, middle-distance, long-distance, and relays.
As Westover does not currently have an on-campus track facility, the ideal candidate will be flexible, creative, and resourceful in designing effective practices using on-campus spaces, nearby trails, conditioning areas, and occasional off-campus track facilities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and lead a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented running-focused track program
- Plan and conduct safe, effective training sessions for sprint, middle-distance, and long-distance athletes
- Teach proper running mechanics, conditioning, pacing, and race strategy
- Foster a team culture aligned with Westover’s mission, values, and athletics philosophy
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director on meet scheduling and coordination of off-campus track usage
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team travel
- Communicate clearly and professionally with student-athletes, families, and athletics staff
- Ensure compliance with school, league, and safety policies
Qualifications
- Prior coaching experience in track, cross country, or distance running
- Strong knowledge of training principles for running events
- Ability to be flexible and innovative in practice planning due to facility limitations
- Commitment to mentoring and supporting student-athlete development
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the season)
Season & Schedule
- Season Dates: March 23 – May 20
- Practices: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4:00–6:00 PM
- Competitions: Wednesdays and Saturdays
- Wednesdays: Practice will be held if no meet is scheduled
Compensation
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
