Position Description:

In a manner that is highly responsive and customer service-driven, the Manager of Human Resources leads Westover’s Human Resources team and carries out policies related to all aspects of Human Resources activities. The Manager oversees and manages a wide variety of services to employees, campus residents, and volunteers in areas affecting employment, payroll, leave, benefits, pre-employment, onboarding, compensation, and employee relations. The Manager works closely with the Head of School, CFOO, and Associate Head of School, assisting and advising on human resources issues.

Reporting to Chief Financial and Operations Officer, Phil Salmon, and serving as the chief advisor to the CFOO on all matters related to human resources, benefits, and payroll, the Manager provides leadership and management in the following areas:

Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the school’s goals and strategy and identifies ways to support the school’s mission and strategic goals through talent management.

Lead initiatives to foster an inclusive work environment, ensuring School culture embraces Vision for Belonging and Justice. Act as a key resource for employees by addressing and resolving bias-related incidents, providing support to those affected, and implementing strategies to reduce the impact of unconscious bias. Collaborate with leadership to review policies and practices to ensure they promote fairness and inclusivity and provide ongoing education and training to staff on recognizing and addressing biases in the workplace.

Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, and initiatives to support the school’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.

Oversees the administration of HR programs, including compensation, benefits, payroll, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; compliance and reporting.

In partnership with the Associate Head of School, oversees training and development; in partnership with the Director of Facilities, oversees occupational health and safety.

Researches, develops, and implements competitive compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, and employee incentive programs.

Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends, including review of reports and metrics from the school’s HRIS.

Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management and ensures compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, and safety laws, regulations, and requirements.

Requirements:

Five or more years of broad-based human resources experience and five or more years of supervisory experience in an independent secondary school, college, university, foundation, non-profit, or similar setting. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Experience with HRIS implementation and/or data management. Advanced user of Google Suite.

This is a full-time position that will be performed on-site in CT. Salary commensurate with experience with a generous benefits package.
