Head Coach of Varsity Basketball Job Description

School Information:

Westover School is a girls-centered boarding and day school for grades 9-12. Westover School is looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and dedicated Head Coach of Varsity Basketball for the 2024/2025 winter season which begins in November 2024 and extends through the beginning of March 2025.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:

• Have experience coaching at the high school or college level and/or a successful personal background in basketball.

• Have extensive knowledge of game strategies, the ability to develop technical skills as well as the ability to plan and direct competitively appropriate and fun practices.  

• Have a proven track record of success.

• Be passionate about the sport, enthusiastic about coaching young adults, and excited to make a difference in the lives of players.

• Duties include supporting the players at practices and games, and maintaining a fun and welcoming environment. 

• Work collaboratively with the Assistant Varsity Coach, the Junior Varsity Coach, and members of the Athletic Department.

• Assume responsibility for safely and effectively coaching and traveling with the team.

• Carry out the policies and protocols detailed in Westover’s Employee and Coaching Handbooks.

• Possess or be willing to obtain First Aid, CPR, AED, and A Endorsement certifications.

• Demonstrate sound judgment and professionalism.

• Pass background checks and other reference checks, as needed.

• Participate in practices which will take place 3-5 days a week in the afternoons, and games which are scheduled for Wednesday and Saturday afternoons as well as the odd Monday or Friday.
