Job Summary: 

The Head Swim Coach will provide leadership, instruction, and oversight for Westover’s swim program, fostering an environment where athletes can grow in skill, confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This role is responsible for the overall direction of the team, including practice planning, meet preparation, collaboration with local aquatic centers and mentorship of student-athletes.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead all aspects of the swim program, including planning and conducting practices, organizing meet schedules, and overseeing meet-day operations. Coordinating practices and meets with local aquatic centers.
  • Foster a supportive and motivating team culture that promotes respect, hard work, and personal growth.
  • Provide technical instruction, skill development, and individualized feedback to swimmers at varying levels of experience.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director to coordinate team logistics, budgets, and transportation.
  • Supervise and mentor the Assistant Swim Coach, ensuring alignment with program goals.
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, faculty, and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all school, league, and safety regulations.
  • Travel with the team to all away meets and events. All Practices are off-campus at local aquatic centers.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level, or a successful competitive swimming background.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire student-athletes in a positive, inclusive environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work afternoons, with practices 3–5 days per week and meets generally scheduled on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Lifeguard certification
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a Connecticut “A” endorsement on driver’s license to transport athletes is a plus.
  • Successful completion of a background check and reference review.
